Since the fall of 2011, The Plaza has been providing quality mainstream and independent films to Long Island's South Shore community. It started as a small volunteer group, showing films in the upstairs loft of the Brick House Brewery on Main Street, and grew into a fully equipped state-of-the-art digital cinema located on the ground floor of the Art Space Apartments complex on Terry Street, one block south of Main Street.Besides showing world-class films with guest speakers, filmed operas, ballets and plays, The Plaza also provides a space for live events including locally curated music series and stand-up comedy. As a Media Arts Center, The Plaza offers classes in animation and filmmaking as well as media literacy. The Plaza is just kicking off its Media Arts Classes having already completed seven sessions in the last three years. We are looking for Media Arts Teachers who will work with the director and eventually develop programming that will broaden in time and scope. The Plaza is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) community supported cultural organization. Its mission is to celebrate the power and magic of film as an art form and as a medium for multicultural exchange and social responsibility.
