Nonprofit Organization Management - Sebastopol, California, United States
The Schoolbox Project provides mobile, trauma-informed education, art, and play to children impacted by war and crisis by converting shipping containers, buses, or even sidewalks into safe, child friendly spaces. Our projects include school programs for children in refugee camps in Greece, Bangladesh, and pop-up programs for children affected by U.S. natural disasters. On the surface, our work may look like school, it may look like play. Dig deeper and you will find a guiding set of principles that informs every choice we make. Every volunteer is trained specifically on the unique needs of traumatized children. Each program follows specific trauma informed guidelines, such as rhythm & routine and no time-outs. We also educate all of our volunteers in fundamental child protection and anti-trafficking practices. To date, we have served over 9,000 children and trained over 1,500 volunteers.
