The St. George's Society of Toronto - the city's oldest charity - has been providing the city with crucial social services and an active social life for almost 180 years. It was founded at a lively dinner on April 23 (St. George's Day), 1834 to provide newcomers with food, doctors and even a now-historic cemetery which we still maintain. \\The Society has continued to support causes that matter most, when they matter most, ever since. But the kind of support reflects the changing reality of Toronto. For instance, Society doctors no longer meet immigrants at the docks, but St. George's has generated millions of dollars for ground-breaking medical research that is saving lives across Canada and around the world. Among many other causes we help homeless mothers and veterans permanently in hospital, and over $2.5 million in university endowments give youth a chance at the future.\\Members enjoy a range of activities from pub night quizzes to lunches with speakers, from cultural outings to tours of historic sites, from the glittering Red Rose Ball to the garden party with croquet and Pimm's. The recently founded 'George' group hosts networking and events for young professionals.\\The Society brings together men and women of all cultures with an interest in things British for good fun, good fellowship and good works – a tradition that has helped Toronto become the enviable place it is.\\Join us!\\www.stgeorges.to
