Social Services - Charlottesville, VA, US
STARS is a home for developmentally disadvantaged adolescent females and males who are in need of Independent Living skills. We are located in Charlottesville, Virginia and have been have been serving at-risk youth since 1997. We currently have four homes throughout the community with the capacity to serve up to sixteen girls and fifteen boys. Our philosophy at STARS is that life is hard enough for young people, so those who meet the criteria for admission to this program are in special need of opportunities for success. We offer these opportunities in a group setting while maintaining focus on individual goals. While many participants who join our program still need guidance, support and supervision, everyone will have a chance to grow towards independence. Each youth plays a unique role within the group, building on their strengths and developing their own self-concepts. Our highly skilled and trauma informed staff team are committed to doing all that we can towards helping each resident succeed in their individual service plan, by exposing them to the opportunities that are specific to their own needs and goals. We work to arrange these opportunities and provide positive feedback whenever possible to keep our residents motivated. We believe that individual success reflects on the success of the program, so we work hard to see that all of our teens become stars!
