Performing Arts - Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, Russia
The Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theater is the second one in the Russian Far East after the Opera and Ballet Theater of Sakha Republic (Yakutia). In terms of technical equipment the theater building is the best in Russia. The building consists of 7 floors plus 3 basement floors. There are two stages, 20 dressing rooms, 14 elevators, seven buffets and one restaurant. The main architectural feature of the building is the glass front implemented according to the "cube in cube" principle. The theater's Grand Hall is designed for large-scale opera and ballet performances. It is shaped like a horseshoe and can provide seating for up to 1380 people. Each seat is equipped with a personal cooling system which can be controlled by the viewer. The Grand Stage is designed so that the space behind the scenes is equal in size to the Stage itself. The technical equipment helps to change the scenery quickly which allows for more complex performances. The Small Hall is intended to be used for chamber concerts and plays. It provides seating for 356 people. This Hall's stalls can be transformed and be levelled up with the stage. The Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theater is equipped with the unique acoustic system. Specialists from South Korea took part in its development process. Japanese experts (notably from Yamaha) were invited to the test concerts for monitoring and counselling. An uncommon design concept was used in the theater's halls: wooden suspended ceiling with almost no metal is mounted on guy-wires. When music is played the ceiling resonates like the violin's sound board. Furthermore, special panels of three types which reflect, absorb and dissipate sound are installed in both halls. The theater's creative team consists of orchestra and choir as well as opera and dance companies. The members of the Theater's creative team are the artists from Russia, Ukraine, Kirghizia, Bulgaria, Romania, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and the USA.
