Women with type 2 diabetes need extra special care and attention. Not to be forgotten, women are the gatekeepers of health in our families. So, when women are EMPOWERED and better INFORMED, we can create a ripple effect leading to entire families being healthier and happier. We personally believe that education about self-managing diabetes is the first step in having a happier and less stressful life with type 2 diabetes. Currently people with type 2 diabetes can get educated about diabetes through their doctor or diabetes educator, yet this has not proved to be effective. This is where The Suga Project comes inWe're not healthcare professionals with imposed constraints or an agenda. Well, actually we do have an agenda, The Suga Project team just wants to help make people feel loved and happy!Through academic research, and more importantly, through our own family experience, we know that individuals with Type 2 diabetes do not feel understood, nor heard when it comes to living with their condition. Our end goal is to change the relationship women have with type 2 diabetes; to see a reduction in the number of amputations in our community, and, to see people live long, happy, healthy lives. We seek to educate about type 2 diabetes and build an expansive community of people who are informed, empowered and feel loved, supported and cared for in the quest to manage diabetes.
