Philanthropy - Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria
The Survivor Project is an organisation founded in January 2019, with a goal to tackle the issue of sexual assault with a specific focus on Lagos, Nigeria. As our organization has grown, we have held fundraisers in Lagos and London and taken on a number of new projects. These all aim to decrease the instances of sexual violence in Nigeria or support survivors of sexual violence. The establishment of this group was triggered by the realisation of the extent to which sexual violence has affected our society, as well as the growing rape culture in our communities. As a group we aim to challenge the aspects of Nigerian culture and the pillars in Nigerian society that enable sexual violence and perpetuate the silencing of victims. We also aim to work with sexual assault reference centers and individual organisations to ensure that survivors of sexual violence and people who find themselves at risk of sexual violence have access to the available aid resources. Additionally we want to make anti-violence education, specifically anti-sexual violence, a part of primary and secondary education across Niggeria. We aim to increase proactive initiatives against sexual violence as there are already several existing reactive initiatives.
