The Tourism Centre was opened in 2002 as a part of Lancaster University's out reach strategy. The centre was tasked with using University resources to provide regeneration support to the visitor economy across the North West of England, reaching out to small and medium enterprises that may otherwise have consider obtaining support from this institution. Now an independent company, The Tourism Centre focuses on developing quality and skills within the SMEs to facilitate the development of existing or additional income streams, up skilling the management and work force within the sector and developing access to multi agency interventions, through sector specific workshops, business consultancy, sector specific self development materials and action learning. Key competencies of the centre were marketing development and support, business planning, strategy and product feasiblity development. The Tourism Centre has experience of delivering projects under the regulations of funding streams including: European Regional Development Fund Higher Education Innovation Fund North West Development Agency The Northern Way Single Regeneration Budget
