The VanGo Project empowers youth to lead fulfilled lives by increasing access to arts and enrichment opportunities, where they acquire and apply attributes for success in a collaborative environment. The VanGo Project is an associated program of Shunpike and serves youth, particularly those with limited access to arts and enrichment opportunities. Its target community is the students of The Bremerton School District, located in Bremerton, Washington. This school district has approximately 5000 students, 60% of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch. The VanGo Project currently acts in partnership with West Hills STEM Academy to provide after school arts and crafts programs. Arts and crafts are enjoyable activities with life enhancing effects. They also build capital in the form of drive, creativity and innovation. In this respect, arts and crafts are similar to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Such capital is critical, not only for self-satisfying lives, but also for future economic development. Youth with access to arts and enrichment opportunities and a STEM education increase their chances for success.
