The Vermont Hemp Company was founded by UVM alum, JT Bedard with the explicit purposes of promoting Industrial Hemp research and the re-development of an Industrial Hemp agricultural commodity industry in northern New England. The specific goals of The VTHC are Environmental Stewardship, revenue generation and job creation. By investing in local production and processing capabilities, The VTHC intends to facilitate the development of a Vermont-branded hemp identity, supplying local artisans and manufacturers with local raw materials. From a research perspective, The VTHC is working with researchers from UVM to investigate the viability of Industrial Hemp as a phytoremediation crop for water quality mitigation in the Lake Champlain Basin. The VTHC is also supportive of the UVM Agricultural Extension Office, The State of Vermont Department of Agriculture, The Lake Champlain ECHO Center and the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility as well as a being a Vice President and Founding Member of the Vermont Chapter of the Hemp Industry Association.
