THE VIOLENT ROMANTICS are a performance house engaged with the theatrical investigation of physicality, design, text and social commentary within contemporary performance. The house works across and between disciplines to create rich visual statements for the stage. ‘The kids are not alright, but that is most definitely a part of their charm'. REALTIME MAGAZINE, 2011Founded in 2011 The Violent Romantics began staging works in photography studios, warehouses and eventually in theatres. The Violent Romantics' methodology stems from the performers need to make a unique interaction with theatrical design elements to enable the space to speak. The performance house is made up of independent in-house writers, actors, directors and designers. Modeled after Andy Warhol's Factory, The Violent Romantics emulates the creative atmosphere it was known for. By enabling all creative personnel an equal space to play, challenge and fight for a work, the performance house stands as a testament to collaboration. The Violent Romantics are based in Sydney / Melbourne with performances in 2014 and 2015 taking place at Rocksurfers Theatre Company (SYD), Artshouse (MELB), ATYP (SYD), PACT Centre of Emerging Artists (SYD), SYC Studios (BNE), The Tuxedo Cat (MELB) and The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art (BNE)
