Hospital & Health Care - Brighton, England, United Kingdom
The Virtual Doctor service uses the local mobile broadband network in Africa to connect rural clinics with doctors worldwide. The VDrs has over 10 years of experience providing remote diagnosis and treatment advice to frontline workers in some of the most challenged communities in the world. We have the capacity to support any health system, anywhere. We are only limited by funding. Please help us to expand the reach of our service, by donating whatever you can below.https://www.justgiving.com/virtualdoctorsThere is a desperate lack of primary healthcare available to rural communities in many parts of Africa due to their geographical isolation, shortage of doctors, and lack of resources. In Zambia:• one in nine children will not reach the age of five (UNICEF 2011)• 14% of the adult population* are HIV Positive (ZDHS 2007) *(Aged 15-49)• For a population of 14 million there are less than 800 registered doctors (WHO).Our project will prioritise child and maternal health, and will make a huge difference to the health of communities severely affected by HIV/Aids and other more treatable diseases such as Malaria. By enabling remote access to the skills and experience of trained physicians around the world (our ‘Virtual Doctors') via the local mobile broadband network, the service will help health workers to reduce unnecessary mortality and referrals to distant health-centres.We would like to hear from organisations and businesses who may have some synergy with our work and who may consider supporting our cause. Please contact enquiries@virtualdoctors.org if you think you could help us to increase our resourcing capacity in order to fund our work.
