The Wong family opened their first Welcome Restaurant in Northern Ireland in 1973. The Stranmillis restaurant was opened in 1982 by the then Lord Mayor, Tom Patton. Now in it's second generation, it is the longest established Chinese restaurant in the country.Charlie Wong, son of the founder, took over the restaurant in 2016 after working for over 10 years abroad in places such as USA, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.The Welcome Takeaways are now independently run by his cousins – a family business through and through. The Welcome Restaurant has won a range of awards throughout the years, including Best Belfast Restaurant, Master Chef and Egon Ronay Awards.Recent accolades include:Tripadvisor - The Number One restaurant in Belfast from September 2017 to January 2018.
