Saying 2020 has been anything but ordinary is an understatement. The whole world has been unexpectedly hit by a pandemic that might alter what we consider societal normalcy. I spent months indoors juggling a sudden influx of work minus a normal routine and outdoor activities. I sometimes felt completely overwhelmed with exhaustion, uncertainty and fear. Initially, I came up with the idea to create The Witty Poet as a Shop in January 2020 when I thought Corona was just a virus in China that would not affect my life in any shape or form. My idea was to come up with a group of illustrations that I would use on various creations and items, to commemorate some old poems, use on some fun quotes and so on. When the pandemic hit Italy, I paused working on the Witty Poet due to all the uncertainties and my fears. I then started reading the news more than usual and that turned out to be not such a bright idea. However, through my many escapades around the web, I fell in love with reading and re-reading histories that captivated my mind. I rekindled the high-school Faith, who had English Literature and History as two of her strong subjects. The more I read and learned the more I was driven towards The Witty Poet. I decided to make The Witty Poet a Blog/Shop (if there is such a term) and combine the shop idea and my rekindled love for history, art, culture and literature to produce some household items, accessories, stationery etc for curious girls like me who appreciate the old just as much as the new. I wanted to share as well some interesting stories from the past. These stories show how civilization has come a long way and even though presently the world seems like a big bowl of turmoil, a trip down memory lane might be just that sprinkle of hope we need.
