Nonprofit Organization Management - Albany, New York, United States
The Women's Fund of The Capital Region is a dynamic collaboration of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and United Way of the Greater Capital Region, aimed at helping women and girls in our region be financially independent. Our programs and grants serve women and girls in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Schoharie counties. Now in its seventh year of operation, the Women's Fund is successful due to the collaborative effort of more than 300 women - donors, volunteers, community and business leaders – all helping women become financially independent. We are proud of our accomplishments: -- Over 250 women have pledged at least $500 to support women in our community; and more than 100 more women have provided financial, volunteer and in-kind support services. -- The Fund has awarded more than $288,000 in scholarships, emergency funds and grants, including: $168,500 in grants to 19 organizations; $110,800 in scholarships to 29 women attending Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) and Schenectady County Community College (SCCC); and $9,200 in funding for an Emergency Fund at SCCC that is available to assist non-traditional female students who are experiencing unusual or severe financial strain due to a sudden unforeseen crisis outside of their control. -- The Women's Fund is the single largest scholarship donor at Schenectady County Community College. -- We have held six Trailblazer Luncheons, each attended by 300+ people, where women in philanthropy scholarship recipients from The Women's Fund Education Initiative were honored.
