The Writing Den Details
The Writing Den is a nimble and growing four year old 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with bi-coastal impact from launch city San Diego to home base New York. We help those in need with a focus on the homeless create, communicate, and connect by using handwriting. We provide den guests with materials, postage, and mailing, along with a kind ear. They write letters and cards to loved ones, employers, housing authorities, and others. In addition create poems, drawings, and more! Correspondence is mailed after each den with any response shared as soon as received to ensure (re)connection.We host 10 in person and virtual monthly dens with large, established social service and community partners in New York, Seattle, and San Diego. These are #1, #3, and #7 U.S. cities with the highest homeless populations (2020 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Report). We have supported over 5,000 guests with 200 hours of writing, sharing, and conversing at 100 dens since our organization's launch. Our greatest success continues to be those of connection from our den guests and recipients of their writing.
