At The Youth and Children's Advocacy Network (THEYCAN), our mission is to educate, advocate and empower families who are navigating the complex world of special health care needs. As parents of children with special health care needs, we have spent over a decade advocating for our children. We understand the importance of having the proper resources to meet the needs of our children, and the necessity to simplify our complicated lives.THEYCAN organizes and provides these resources to assist our families.Educate.We provide a network of organizations and Health and Human Services links to educate families how to obtain the supports their children need.In addition to equipping parents with resources, we also educate the public in an effort to increase tolerance, accessibility, and inclusion.Advocate.THEYCAN also advocates the rights of youth and children with special health care needs to protect their best interests. It is imperative that parents not only advocate on behalf of their children, but also encourage our youth and children to advocate themselves, when possible.Empower.THEYCAN strives to remove the stigmas associated with Health and Human Services programs that allow our children with special health care needs to transition seamlessly into adulthood. We reinforce the idea that these programs that help our children survive and thrive should be promoted and celebrated.
