Theatre; Just Because, an independent theatre company in Fort McMurray founded in 2014, is run entirely by local artists with various experience levels and areas of expertise. Their mission is to empower artists to take ownership of their work through community-based and professionally-driven theatre productions and workshops. TJB works to develop unique opportunities for local artists to create meaningful and impactful theatre experiences, and to foster ongoing artist growth in our local context.They strive to make theatre accessible to all, and they are constantly exploring new venues and ideas to continuously support local performance arts through mentorship, encouragement, and by challenging artists to develop their craft.Their portfolio includes independent theatre productions, the newly launched Quarantheatre Series in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Youth Play Production program, play readings, workshops, the New Play Development Series, Community Director program, and several events organized for Alberta Culture Days and igNIGHT. Several of their productions have received accolades locally as well as provincially.Over the past six years, TJB has engaged artists of all ages and experience levels from all walks of life, and developed a strong connection with other arts organizations and community stakeholders. Through their work, they develop new leaders in the theatre arts both locally and provincially in a time when there are extremely few development opportunities available for theatre artists in Fort McMurray.
