At Theatre of Diversion, we are driven by an avid love for storytelling.The richness of different perspectives and vastness of our innovative capabilities in performance are wholly embraced by our company. We advocate for considered creative autonomy, and strive to ensure all our work is; Diverse. Imaginative. Vivid. Eye-Opening. Reflexive. Sustainable. Immersive. Original. Nurturing.Theatre of Diversion was founded in the unprecedented limbo of COVID restrictions in 2020. With borders closed and a return to university a distant possibility, our company was born out of a desire to rediscover the stories of our hometown, to enjoy creative autonomy and develop our practice as arts workers. As young people, we felt overlooked and unheard in our respective spheres, but strongly believed that our lack of experience was not a lack of capability. Our journey is one that is only beginning as we proudly carve out this new space beside the ones we had once marked on our maps. We warmly welcome all emerging artists to join us, to share with us their own developing stories, and perhaps discover a diversion of their own. There are many to thank for inspiring and supporting our company in its infancy, and we welcome opportunities to create with friends old and new in years to come. It is with great excitement that we anticipate Theatre of Diversion's international launch in 2021.Theatre of Diversion respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the unceded land upon which we live and create, the Wulgurukaba of Gurambilbarra and Yunbenun.We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and are deeply honoured to learn and share in their stories on this spectacular country.We humbly acknowledge the neighbouring groups of the Townsville district and the custodianship of Indigenous peoples around the world as we develop our global creative practice.
