Nonprofit Organization Management - Ventura, California, United States
Thomas Fire Help is the safety net under the safety net - the clearinghouse for recovery efforts that fall outside the boundaries of the larger institutions in the public and nonprofit sector that provide help.We are currently supporting survivors of the Thomas Fire, Holiday Fire and Montecito Mudslide. We work at the grassroots level matching help with need, solving problems on a one-on-one scale and lifting up those who fall through the cracks. ThomasFireHelp connects help with need on a grassroots level. We are an online platform where fire and mudslide survivors can quickly find what they need, from initial food and shelter to longer term needs like housing, goods, and services. We built a central hub for resources, so survivors can connect with the help they need in one location. We are the clearinghouse for recovery efforts that fall outside the boundaries of the larger institutions in the public and nonprofit sector that provide help. Our organization works at the grassroots level matching help with need, solving problems on a one-on-one scale and picks up those who fall through the cracks. Those we serve are the most vulnerable, as they do not belong to any group with a collective voice in which to lobby for funds or help. We work with everyone and anyone including the under-insured, the under-paid, the not obvious and those who are unable to maneuver in a system. ThomasFireHelp was born out of the immediate and desperate needs of people in the Ventura and Santa Barbara communities facing disasters of unprecedented scale and destruction. No one knew where to go or what to do, and EVERYONE wanted to help. That was our simple beginning - we became the 'Craigslist' of recovery, building a "scrappy" web-based platform connecting those in need with those who had resources to give.
