TILT conserves land in the Thousand Islands region of New York State, which includes the islands in and the shoreline along the St. Lawrence River between Cape Vincent, NY and Oak Point, NY on the US side of the Canada/US border. The Thousand Islands Land Trust works to conserve the natural beauty, wildlife habitats and recreational opportunities of the 1000 Islands region. We have been awarded an accredited status by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission in 2009, a designation that indicates TILT meets national standards in land conservation.TILT conserves over 7000 acres of land. Roughly half of it is privately owned land subject to conservation easements held by TILT. The other half is land that is owned by TILT. Four preserves owned by TILT are open to the public: Potters Beach, Zenda Farm Preserve, Grindstone Island Nature Trail and Crooked Creek Preserve. These offer recreational opportunities for visitors, as well as environmental protection. Other lands owned by TILT include rocks and shoals in the St. Lawrence River, grasslands and forest which preserve wildlife habitat, and land donated to TILT for its scenic qualities.
