Ticún Brasil/תיקון ברזיל helps young travelers to Brazil to find volunteering opportunities with local Jewish activists. The project's name comes from "Tikun Olam"(תיקון עולם), a Hebrew phrase that means "repairing the world." Ticún Brasil makes it easier to be actively engaged not just where you live, but where you travel as well. The Ticún participants are involved in various experiences with Brazilian Jewish organizations ranging from several hours to few months, from visiting elderly Jews to Tikkun Olam projects in Favelas.Ticún's Jewish service-learning programs are designed to develop both participants and community. We establish partnerships with communities whose documented needs are associated with education (i.e. teaching English), recovery from a natural disaster (such as flooding) and implementing sustainability practices. We organize regular cultural and educational events in the US to promote global Jewish social service. The themes range from key diaspora artists to discussions on the Jewish social activism both in the US and overseas.Ticún Brasil was founded in 2008 with the help of UJA's Council of Jewish Emigre Community Organizations (COJECO).
