Tiddas 4 Tiddas, is a movement dedicated to celebrating and elevating positive stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls, created by Gamilaroi and Dunghutti sisters Marlee and Keely Silva. Towards the end of 2018, inspired by the NAIDOC theme of that year ‘Because of her we can', Marlee and Keely wanted to build an online platform that would uphold the momentum and excitement seen surrounding our women's stories that year.What started as a humble Instagram page that shared a new profile of an inspiring tidda each day, quickly amassed online followers in the thousands. Fast forward to today and the Tiddas 4 Tiddas community across our social media channels exceeds 31 thousand people. The page has also been extended into a podcast that captures host Marlee's conversations with excellent Indigenous women from all walks of life, and similarly, Marlee has written her debut novel inspired by the movement, ‘My tidda, my sister', which will be an extension of the goals and aspirations of Tiddas 4 Tiddas when it is released in September 2020. A lot has happened since Marlee and Keely founded Tiddas 4 Tiddas 18 months ago, from being featured in magazines like Marie Claire and ELLE Australia; to speaking at various community and school events; being nominated for the Young People's Human Rights Medal by the Australian Human Rights Commission in 2019 and even being invited onto live TV shows like NITV's Survival Day Sunrise Ceremony and even ABC's QandA – this is so much more than they could ever have imagined. Overall though, from the Silva sister's perspective, the best part about this wild ride – and that which gives them the most hope and drive to work harder and do more – is the ways it feels as though they are playing some small part in the shifting occurring around general education, attitudes and the overall perception of Indigenous women and their capabilities, in the broader Australian society.
