The disposal of waste tires is a major health and environmental problem worldwide. Almost three billion tires are produced annually and one billion are disposed of per year. Due to recent global recognition and strong environmental awareness, many authorities have imposed strict rules and regulations regarding this problem. Reuse, re-treading, energy and material recovery at the end of its life tires are viable options. However, the recycling of waste tires is not globally successful.Given these aspects, is it possible to find technical solutions that allow efficient reuse of old-tire waste to reduce environmental pollution and achieve an efficient circular economy?TIREGRID was born as a research project at the University of Medellín, which established the need to find a sustainable and engineering solution for the final disposal of tires. This alternative represents reuse processes with low energy consumption and easy to implement in civil works. We are a team of geotechnical engineers, who have been in charge of creation, research development, and technological diffusion.Participation in infrastructure projects has allowed us to identify potential uses in multiple applications of geotechnical engineering, and also validate cost reductions of up to 40% compared to other conventional systems, preserving safety and sustainable aesthetics.We have a national invention patent, which is supported by the experimental development of our technology and puts our technical team at the service of society in the design, implementation and monitoring of your projects. TIREGRID is part of the circular economy as a whole, being a system for the use of resources in favor of the development of sustainability.
