Healthcare Facility/Healthcare Services - Monkton, VT, US
The ToDo Institute is an international training center for Japanese Psychology, located in rural Vermont. Begun in 1992, ToDo serves as a meeting place between east and west. Our natural approach to mental wellness, grounded specifically in Morita Therapy and Naikan, bridges the gap between the spiritual, the psychological and the practical. Our work focuses on the skillful use of attention, the cultivation of gratitude, the awareness of interdependence, the ability to put oneself in another's shoes, and purposeful action in the face of obstacles. Naikan is a Japanese word which means "inside looking" or "introspection". A more poetic translation is "seeing oneself with the mind's eye". It is a structured method of self-reflection that helps us to understand ourselves, our relationships and the fundamental nature of human existence. Morita Therapy, with roots in Zen Buddhism, helps us to develop mindfulness by shifting our attention from our mental preoccupations to the world around us and learning how to coexist with our internal experience. Cure is not defined by the alleviation of discomfort or the attainment of some ideal feeling state, but by taking purposeful action in life. Our retreat center is nestled on 12 wooded acres in the foothills of the Green Mountains. Our peaceful grounds, walking trails, scenic views and beautiful facility offer a quiet setting for personal renewal and growth. We offer you an opportunity to experience, rather than simply imagine, a change in the way you live.
