Our story is simple. We saw an opportunity and launched Top & Derby, with the vision of disrupting a stagnant industry that lacks innovation. We aren't reinventing the wheel, we're just designing functional yet beautiful home healthcare products that people can be proud to use. In 2013 we launched our inaugural product; the Chatfield cane, through a successful crowdfunding campaign. In 30 days we generated $22K of pre-sales, which allowed us to test the market before investing in manufacturing. Since then we've shipped our walking sticks to customers in over 15 countries. Top & Derby also received exposure in 50+ media sources around the world including Fast Company, The Globe and Mail and New York magazine. In 2014 we received a prestigious IDEA Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America. This recognition inspired us to find new opportunities to re-imagine other products. In the spring of 2015 we launched another successful campaign, this time to introduce a new line of compression socks. We saw that most socks of this kind were bland, boring and usually knit in some generic shade of beige. Our progressive socks were a stylish and colourful solution to this problem. We have since refined and expanded our collection and continue to ship to customers all over the world. In 2018 we were selected to be part of an exhibition titled Access + Ability at the renowned Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, and consequently the objects went on to be included in their permanent collection. The ambitious exhibition focused on bringing awareness to inclusive design issues through a cross-section of ground-breaking accessible products. We continue to receive positive feedback and hear stories about how our designs have made an impact in our customers lives. They couldn't echo our vision more! We aim to continue challenging the stigma surrounding disability, and design products that inspire confidence in the people who use them.
