Building Materials - Bolton, England, United Kingdom
We are market leaders in converting discarded waste plastics into award winning plastic film for the building industry. Frank Mercer & Sons has been recycling for a period of forty years, in the last twenty two we have concentrated on Polythene recycling. From literally Frank Mercer & his three Sons the company has developed to a professional company employing 62 staff, under the leadership of Doug Mercer. We are now totally committed to the Construction Industry, following a huge investment in research and development together with a £3.2 million investment in State of the Art Plant & Machinery.Following the introduction of Packaging Waste Regulations 1997 we applied for and were granted accreditation by the Department of the Environment as a Reprocessor of Packaging Waste. We now recycle almost entirely post consumer waste material. The PRN system has enabled investment in research, development, plant and machinery that would otherwise have taken many more years. We have had to prove that we can make a consistent quality product from an inconsistent raw material. As there has never been a totally recycled Damp Proof membrane, made to Builders regulation standard, we have been a 'Guinea Pig' for various departments to evaluate our products. In order to achieve our goal we first became accredited to ISO 9000 and now ISO 9001/2008 standard. This followed approval by both the British Board of Agrements and PIFA. Our own in-house testing facility confirms the integrity of our product and is regularly monitored by external auditors. All our staff undertake a rigorous and ongoing internal training schedule together with external training. Fourteen of our staff are currently taking NVQ II qualifications in blown film operation. At Frank Mercer & Sons we feel justly proud of our achievements and our absolute commitment to recycling and staff training has been more than justified.
