The Recreation Department sponsors a wide range of youth, adult, and senior athletic programs throughout the year. For youth we provide football, cheerleading, soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball, basketball, T-ball, and coach-pitch. For adults we offer basketball, softball, and volleyball and for our senior adults, the Johnston County Senior Games. In addition to athletics, we offer a variety of recreation programs, camps and clinics. General recreation programs include karate and arts & crafts classes. Some of the camps and clinics offered are volleyball camp, basketball camp, challenger soccer camp, and baseball and softball camp.Festivals and special events, and special programs are provided throughout the year. The largest of these events is the Selma Railroad Days Festival that is held during the first weekend of October featuring live entertainment, food, arts and crafts, special events, a children's area, carnival, the Selma Railroad Run, parade, pageant, and much more. The All-American Festival is held on July 4th. Other events include the Urban Beach Party in August, JoCo Latino Festival and Senior Citizens' Day held in May of each year. Special programs include Looking for Leprechauns, The Great Egg Scramble, Trunk or Treat, Calls From Santa and Selma Santa Train to name a few.Recreation facilities operated by the Department include neighborhood parks, tennis courts, a gymnasium, outdoor basketball courts, picnic shelters, and baseball and softball fields. Many facilities are available to rent for birthday parties, company picnics, family reunions, and other functions.The Recreation Advisory Committee, appointed by the Selma Town Council, advises on the development and operation of the Town's Parks and Recreation Department. The Committee meets the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Office located at 305 North Pollock Street.
