The JCU Townsville Fire is the only female professional sporting team of any code in Northern Australia, and is driven by a passionate, dynamic and well respected Board, who are as committed and as focused as the players themselves. Having participated in the WNBL since 2001/02, a new entity - Townsville Fire Limited – was awarded the license in 2011 to enable the team to continue to play in Australia's pre-eminent women's basketball league. The Fire represent healthy, strong, female role models within the North Queensland community and well beyond and boast a star-studded playing roster that includes triple Olympian Suzy Batkovic and Australian Opals point guard Rachael McCully.
