TravBuddy.com was one of the first social networking websites specializing in connecting travellers. The site was created by brothers Eric Bjorndahl and David Bjorndahl and launched in 2005 from Berkeley, California.The site allowed users to find travel buddies planning to travel to the same places at the same times, create travel based blogs, upload travel photos and review bars, restaurants, hotels and attractions. TravBuddy had over 1,000,000 members who contributed 200,000 blogs, 100,000 reviews and 5,000,000 photos. Tens of thousands of members from hundreds of countries also met in real life through the site, both privately and in large TravBuddy member organized meetups that had hundreds of attendees.TravBuddy was featured on NBC Nightly News, in Budget Travel Magazine, and in various other publications. It was also a Webby Official Honoree in both the Travel and Social Networking categories for numerous years. The site ceased operations on April 23, 2018, after 13 years in service.
