Treehouse Learning Labs is an organization that was founded in 2016 that aims to deliver Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) programs for kids & youth in a collaborative manner. We focus heavily on facilitating free workshops to communities without access to them as well as put a strong emphasis to get girls introduced-to and passionate about STEAM. Our overall objective is to not only introduce/nurture a curiosity for STEAM but build an innovative Canada as well. Integrating design concepts (Art) with a STEM curriculum allows kids to foster their imagination and creativity to find solutions to everyday problems. Every workshop and class has a collaborative element towards it so that students build communication skills, confidence and help other students grow and learn. The Treehouse Learning Labs organization marries Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in a subsidized summer program and free workshops at community centers, community events, high schools, elementary schools as well as in our own facility. We have these workshops across the GTA as well as two summer program locations in Mississauga and Toronto. This makes us mobile and able to reach as many community groups as possible. Our workshops can be catered to include individually Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or a mix of all STEAM. Each lesson will be integrated with Arts and collaborative learning. For example, we have done workshops for high school completing their physics unit and facilitate a workshop that allows these students to use theory learned in class and apply it. They are given design challenges and asked to work in groups and communicate what they have learned to each other and the whole class. The curriculum provided in schools are packed and rarely have room for projects where the students can apply their learning and have a chance to collaborate with other students. We facilitate workshops, so they can do just that.
