Fund-raising - , County Dublin, Ireland
Trinity Med Day is an organisation run by medical students from Trinity College. We hold an annual fundraising event which sees over 600 medical students take to the streets of Dublin and engage with members of the public to raise much needed funds for important hospital services. Over the years we have raised over €800,000 for new health services and medical equipment in Trinity-affiliated teaching hospitals. This year the beneficiaries of funds raised by Med Day's are: ∙ Same Day Ultrasound Platform, Endocrinology, Tallaght University Hospital. Med Day will cover the cost of purchasing a departmental ultrasound machine for the instantaneous assessment of conditions related to hormone replacement therapy, hormonal contraception, sub-fertility and other endocrine conditions such as thyroid nodules.∙ ICU Garden, St James' Hospital. The ICU is an extremely stressful environment both for patients and families. We plan to develop unused courtyard space in SJH, to make it wheelchair accessible and planted with shrubs and flowers to give patients a calming space. Ideally the area would be equipped with power supply and medical gas so patients can be monitored and supported.∙ Wheelchair for End-of-Life Care, Our Lady's Hospice. This project aims to provide access for palliative patients to a high-specification powered wheelchair. It would support those patients at end-of-life who require complex postural management, mobility support and allow for autonomy and control within their environment when it matters the most.∙ Breast Cancer Survivorship Care, St James' Hospital. This cancer survivorship project encompasses 2 outpatient initiatives - the implementation of a Pink Pilates class and an 8-week circuit based exercise class. These aim to start an outpatient survivorship program for patients who have had breast cancer. Both projects will have a huge positive impact on the quality of life and provide much needed support for the cancer survivor population of SJH.
