Trope is an Anglo/French partnership between two ex Goldsmiths students in Arts and Computing; Carol MacGillivray and Bruno Mathez. Together we make innovative hybrid artworks using an immersive system of concrete animation we invented called the Diasynchronoscope. It is a medium so young that, as far as we know, we are the only people in the world using this technique. The resulting artworks are site-specific, immersive and enormously popular, they are at once cutting-edge modern but also evoke a sense of the wonder of pre-cinematic optical devices. Exhibited artworks have been very well received, and we have had some excellent reviews from Architectural and Design magazines and New Scientist. Our installations are site-specific and each artwork stretches us as pioneer artists by pushing the boundaries of the Diasynchronoscope as a new screen-less audiovisual medium. We have recently created artworks in the round that are viewable through 360 degrees, interactive artworks and animated real objects. As it is new and you have to ‘be there' to understand the Diasynchronoscope, we want to show it to as many people as possible and spread the word about its unique qualities.
