The Tropical Forest Group (TFG) catalyzes policy, science and advocacy to conserve and restore the planet's remaining tropical forests. TFG works urgently and responsibly to save tropical forests, fight climate change and improve the lives of local people. TFG is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization registered as a corporation in the State of California. We are an accredited observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Tropical Forest Group fills four strategic niches. 1. We orchestrate high-impact education and advocacy campaigns aimed at increasing tropical forest conservation finance. We do this primarily through our work with UN negotiations on climate change. We also educate the public about US policy, notably the Tropical Forest Conservation Act (TFCA) and domestic US cap-and-trade legislation . 2. TFG provides direct support to community forestry projects in developing countries. TFG has donated expertise and project equipment to community forestry projects worldwide. TFG has helped forest protection and restoration projects raise funds, attract attention, identify donors and recruit qualified volunteers. TFG also can help run remote wildlife monitoring and professional video production. TFG provides free or reduced cost advice to projects in conflict and post-conflict areas. 3. TFG does strategic research and consulting to institutions on tropical forest policy, scientific methodologies, sustainable finance, and project development and evaluation. Recent clients include the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University, The CarbonNeutral Company, WWF US, and The Africa Carbon Livelihoods Trust. 4. TFG partners with academic institutions to perform ecosystem carbon modeling, measurements, analysis, statistics and accounting
