Trusty Camera is a user-friendly mobile application for securing images against tampering. Photos captured using the in-app camera are timestamped and secured using our image authentication algorithm so that subsequent image editing will be detected. Photos are processed and stored offline in the phone storage. Internet connection is required only to get the current date and time for timestamping the photos. These are read from a globally used time reference that cannot be tampered with. The secured photos can be sent using messenger services, Facebook, e-mail, etc. The authentication feature allows users to determine if an image was captured using Trusted Camera and to verify the integrity of the photo. If malicious editing is identified, the application will also precisely highlight the falsified image areas. Some use cases are: car insurance companies could accept photos of cars involved in accidents captured not only by their employees, but also by car owners using our app. Individuals witness many amazing things and capture them using smartphone cameras. Trusty Camera would make the authenticity of their photos indisputable and publishable in the media. Our vision is for our solution to be integrated into most cameras. This would render every picture trustworthy.
