Tsinghua University School of Medicine was founded on October 25th, 2001, with Dr. Jieping Wu, renowned medical scientist and academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as the first Dean. Biologist Dr. Nanming Zhao, Structural Biologist and academician Dr. Yigong Shi, Neurobiologist Dr. Bai Lu and Immunologist Dr. Chen Dong served as Executive Vice dean successively. In September 2016, Dr. Chen Dong was appointed as the Dean of the School of Medicine. After nearly two decades of effective development, Tsinghua University School of Medicine has established a solid student cultivation system with strong capacity of scientific research and top notch faculty team. At the same time, the School of Medicine served our nation's goal for ‘Healthy China' by contributing scientific achievements and talents. School of Medicine has 4 major departments right now, including Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Clinical Medicine and Center for Public health. Encompasses 8 disciplines, which are cell and molecular biology, immunology, infectious diseases, oncology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, public health and clinical medicine. For clinical medicine, there are 3 affiliated hospital, Tsinghua Huaxin Hospital, Tsinghua Yuquan Hospital and Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. PLA General Hospital, Peking Hospital, Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and Beijing Institute of Neurosurgery are the teaching hospital of Tsinghua University School of Medicine. School of Clinical Medicine was founded in December 2016, affiliated to School of Medicine. The goal of it is for further integration of clinical resources, as well as improvement of the quality of MD training and the construction of training base for resident doctor and specialist physicians.
