MISSION STATEMENTTulsa CASA, Inc., as authorized by Oklahoma law, is organized to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court by promoting and supporting volunteer representation for children in an effort to provide each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home.APPLY ONLINEhttps://ok-tulsa.evintosolutions.com/VolunteerApplication CASA VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe position of a CASA volunteer is to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children while supporting Tulsa CASAs mission that every child deserves a safe, permanent, and nurturing home. Some key responsibilities of a CASA volunteer are:- Investigate the circumstances surrounding the case- Make an independent evaluation of what is in the child's best interest, both immediately and in the long run- Monitor the implementation of case plans and court orders- Create a court report including observations, concerns, and recommendations - Attend all court hearings Each volunteer receives 24 hours of training. Topics covered in training include: the law, child protection system, courts, developing cultural competence, understanding families and children, communication as a CASA, gathering information, and reporting & monitoring. We ask that volunteers make a 1 year commitment to their case, and that they see the child(ren) once a week. CASAs are likely the only consistent and dependable person that the child knows. CASAs typically spend 10-15 hours per month working on their case. About 50% of CASAs are employed full-time. Qualifications: - Must be 21 years old- No felony convictions - Volunteers are NOT required to have prior experience with the judicial process or child welfare - Complete 24 hours of training and 3 hours of court observation to be sworn-in by a judge We have a dedicated and experienced staff to ensure you have the tools needed to be successful.
