Turner Contemporary in Margate is one of the most distinctive galleries in the UK; its impact stretches beyond culture-led regeneration and the showcasing of world-class exhibitions, to inspiring change by activating art and people. Since opening in 2011, Turner Contemporary has:• Generated over £67 million for the local economy• Led to the opening of over 150 new businesses• Safeguarded 155 jobs• Attracted over 2.8 million visitsOur Social Value research, published in October 2016, tells us that the gallery provides a stronger sense of connectedness to family and friends; enables them to be more receptive to new experiences; empowers them; increases self-belief, inspires and excites them and encourages them to be more active members of society.Key findings from this research for 2015/16 in accordance with Social Return on Investment analysis include: • For every £1 invested in Turner Contemporary's exhibition programmes, £2.88 of net social value is created. • For every £1 invested in Turner Contemporary's lifelong learning programmes, £4.09 of net social value is created for participants in lifelong learning activities. • For every £1 invested in Turner Contemporary's formal education programme, £5.15 of net social value is created for participants.
