UCCLA (Union of Cities' Capitals in the Portuguese-speaking world) is a non-profit Portuguese Association funded in 1985 by the Engineer Nuno Cruz Abecasis (former Maier of Lisbon ) who succeeded in creating an of the The main objective was to create an institutional platform in order to facilitate synergies between the Capitals Portuguese-speaking countries. In 1985, UCCLA was composed of 7 capitals which were: Bissau (Guinea Bissau), Lisbon (Portugal), Maputo (Mozambique), Praia (Cape Verde), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), São Tomé (São Tomé and Príncipe) and Macau (China). During the last 25 years UCCLA's effective membership overpassed 30 cities of the Portuguese-speaking world, from Brazil to Macau. It also has more than 30 private members. Today, UCCLA's main activities are build around three pillars which are:- Institutional support for the Portuguese-speaking Municipalities, members of UCCLA- Social responsibility of Portuguese-speaking enterprises- Development Projects in our member Cities in many different sectors such as: cultural, social, patrimonial rehabilitation, water and sanitation etc.
