Co-Director and Developer: Masters of Physiology for Therapeutic Development program
Welcome to the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, College of Medicine at UIC. For over 120 years, our department's mission is to teach and create new knowledge with the theme of integrating the life sciences from molecules to organism. Our vigorous and successful programs and teaching and research are prime examples of the mission at work. Offering a Doctoral and Masters program, we are able to provide innovative teaching of physiology and research to pre- and post-doctoral trainees including clinical scientists along with master students. With nationally recognized and well-funded research areas, the department is positioned well to train a new generation of systems oriented biologists investigating molecular mechanisms and translating these mechanisms to the organ, organism, and patient. Our departmental research spans the spectrum from atoms to organs within 6 research areas: Cancer and Tumor Microenvironment, Cardiovascular, Cell Biology, Signaling and Endocrinology, Metabolism and Obesity, Neuroscience and Addiction, and Systems Physiology. Our department's faculty, staff, and trainees continue to shape our mission. We cannot thrive and provide our contributions to the scientific work without the tireless work conducted in and out out our research labs. We invite all to join us in elevating the Physiology and Biophysics department to new heights.
