The UJ Civil Society is a SAICE student chapter that strives to encourage networking between aspiring engineers of all nations and the civil industry. The Purpose of the society is to bridge in the gap between civil engineering students and their respect civil engineering field to inspire a bright future. This is achieved by engaging these students with the relative working class through events that allow inquisitive learning and mentorship opportunities. The UJ Civil Society is structured in such a way that it consists, above all, the mentors, the committee and the members. The purpose of the mentors is to offer direction to the society and assistance were needed. The committee which is made up of students, steer the society into fulfilling its purpose and goals. The members are the most important part of the society which are the students. The society was made for the members by students to serve the students hence their importance to the society. The UJ civil Society aims to fulfil its purpose through conducting events regularly known as Industry Function. This function takes place twice a month on a Thursday from 6pm. The purpose of this function is to offer knowledge about the industry through presentations held by diverse companies. During each function, a specific company is invited to present to the members and also allow a Q&A session after presentation as well as giving individuals an opportunity to network with them. Giving back to the community is an important aspect of this society. During the year the society participates in community engagement programs to show support and express gratitude to the community.Every year the society participates in an academic excursion for learning purposes and exposure to different areas across the world. During the previous years, the UJ Civil Society has travelled to Dubai, BRICS, Botswana and many other countries across the world. The year ends with an Annual Engineering Ball to celebrate the years success.
