Ujjain Engineering College, formerly known as "Government Engineering College, Ujjain", was set up by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1966, is a place of quality engineering education in the region of central India. Earlier the aim of establishing this college was to improve the technical education in the region of Malwa.In 1997 the M.P. Government recognised this college as an autonomous institution and in 2010 Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Bhopal has granted academic autonomy to this college. Under this arrangement, it is governed by a governing body, whose Chairman is the minister of Technical Education And Skill Development Department of Govt. of M.P., and Secretary is Principal of the college. The institute has its Boards of Studies for various disciplines and has designed its syllabus. All the examination, valuation and declaration of results is exercised at the institute level.Started as an institution for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, it has now become a full-fledged technical institution offering programs like B.Tech. (in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication. Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering), M.Tech./M.E. (in Civil, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering departments) and research center with NBA accreditation in Civil and Mechanical engineering.Since 1971, this college has produced quality graduate engineers in the last half-century from different branches of engineering who have been absorbed in almost all the major public sector and private sector industries of the country. Many of its alumni are rendering their services to countries like USA, UK, Canada, France, Australia etc.
