The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote economically productive, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable cities and human settlements.The role of the UN-Habitat New York Office is to ensure and maintain strong linkages between UN-Habitat Nairobi and the UN Headquarters in New York. The New York Office represents UN-Habitat at the intergovernmental and inter-agency level, and serves as the link between UN-Habitat Nairobi and Governments representatives, UN Secretariat departments and other offices, funds and programmes of the UN system. The New York Office contributes to UN-Habitat partnerships, public information and outreach efforts, and ensures that UN-Habitat voice and mandate are considered in these processes and platforms.
