llinois State University has been chosen as one of twenty universities to take part in a national initiative to promote success for women as economics majors. The Undergraduate Women in Economics Challenge (UWE) is a three-year project to identify and implement best practice strategies designed to encourage women in introductory economics courses to stay in the major. The program is led by economists at Harvard University, administered by the National Bureau of Economic Research, and funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.The UWE is dedicated to increasing diversity and representation in the economics profession and to fostering a sense of inclusion across the broader community of scholars. Students are invited to join the organization regardless of their experiences with economics. This group is inclusive; both female and male students are invited to participate.
