Agency Background and Mission:The mission of United Cerebral Palsy Association of San Diego County is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people affected by cerebral palsy and other disabilities.United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego was established in 1958 by parents of children with cerebral palsy who wanted to keep their child at home and out of institutional care while also promoting a better understanding of cerebral palsy to the public at large. Since that time we have served the San Diego community with a variety of programs and services for over 63 years.UCP of San Diego exists to provide services, information, advocacy and support to people with disabilities of all ages and to their families. We are a focal point for information on cerebral palsy and related services at a local level. We are also an affiliate of our national organization, UCPA, Inc., located in Washington, D.C.Our Assistive Technology Center is also part of the California state-wide program called the "Ability Tools Network" which consists of community based assistive technology centers similar to ours who provide free AT equipment loans to anyone in need.In order to meet our mission, UCP of San Diego provides the following services to San Diego County: adult occupational skill training and supported employment services, adult day programs, Project College for college-bound students with disabilities, a toy and software lending library, an assistive technology center, respite for parents, information and referral services, grant funding to individuals with unmet needs and recycling of durable medical equipment. During the last year, we provided services to 5,774 people including children, adolescents and adults with disabilities, their families, educators, college students in special education and to other professionals who work with this population.
