Professional Training & Coaching - Giudecca, Venezia, Veneto, Italy
Founded in the early 1970s, after the tragic floods which stroke Florence and Venice, Università Internazionale dell'Arte (UIA) offers a three-year professional training course in Cultural Heritage Restoration. The course is entirely free and is funded by the European Social Fund and the Veneto Region.UIA has its headquarters in Villa Hériot, a charming and elegant neo-Byzantine building surrounded by a large garden on the Giudecca island, only five minutes by waterbus (vaporetto) from St. Mark's square. In the last years UIA students, in cooperation with professional restorers, have worked in some of the most outstanding and well-known churches and museums of Venice. The course is structured in three stages, each lasting a year: wood, stone, and decorated architectural surfaces. Every year, students will learn about theoretical approaches to restoration techniques and will take part in practical workshops. They will conclude their three-year training with an internship in Italy and/or abroad. Every year UIA offers up to 20 places; applicants are required to pass an entry test including graphic skills assessment and an interview focussing on general knowledge of Italian art history with particular reference to the great painters and sculptors from Venice and Veneto, and the most popular places of interest in Venice. The minimum requirements for admission to the entry test are a Certificate of Secondary Education and a B2-level certificate of knowledge in Italian for foreigners. Students must attend all sessions from Monday to Friday. In order to be granted access to Year 2 and Year 3 as well as the final qualification exams, students should attend at least 75% of both classroom-laboratory sessions (630 hours) and construction site training (270 hours) for each year of the course. The UIA Cultural Heritage Restoration diploma is recognized in Italy and the EU countries.
