Adventist University Zurcher was established in 1995, following the destruction of Adventist University of Central Africa in Rwanda in 1994. To replace it, the Africa-Indian Ocean Division voted to open four campuses throughout the French-speaking areas of its territory—one in Cameroon, one in the Congo Democratic Republic, one in Rwanda, and one in Madagascar. In the fall of 1996, the University opened its doors to 35 theology students, and temporarily established itself on the Indian Ocean Union Mission compound. At present, the University has four Faculties, namely Theology, Business, Computer Science, Education, and Health Sciences, and offers academic programs leading to Bachelor of Theology (BTh), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with majors in Accounting and Management, Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS), Bachelor of Arts in Education (BA-Ed) with majors in Education, Religious Education, and English, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
