University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP) works to create and preserve affordable housing and bring resources to our northwest Bronx community. Even after 30 years, much of our work continues to address the aftermath of redlining and disinvestment in the Bronx; issues that brought about our creation as a community lending entity. Today, we still manage community development loan funds, but our work to identify and address distressed multifamily housing, create new affordable housing and bring needed resources to the Northwest Bronx plays a larger role in our community development work. UNHP has lent close to $6 million to community-based affordable housing in the Bronx, played the key role in the acquisition, renovation and preservation of 60 multifamily buildings, and is co-owner with Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation of West Farms Square, an 8 building 526 unit affordable housing complex. While UNHP continues to strive to create, finance and preserve affordable housing in the northwest Bronx, our biggest impact has been through the Multifamily Assistance Center and use of the BIP to aid in the improvement of tens of thousands of rental units across New York City. We work to achieve our mission by lending from our low interest loan funds, providing technical assistance to community based organizations, affordable housing managers and neighborhood groups, and organizing around and researching the issues that impact the affordability of housing. UNHP also directly serves local residents through the Northwest Bronx Resource Center. UNHP collaborates with six other successful nonprofits to provide our foreclosure prevention, financial education, first time homebuyer, healthcare access, public benefits screening, and free tax preparation programs. In 2016, we added eviction prevention services with a new partner to our Center services.
