The University of Madeira's Students' Union, the representative structure of Madeira's University (UMa) students, was born three years after the foundation of the University. The Students' Union is a private and non profitable institution, which is based on its' own rules and auxiliary legislation, common or specific. The Students' Union is not only a private institution but also an Entity of Public Utility (by resolution of the Regional Government). It is also recognized by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.Having been directed by a wide variety of people, today Students' Union is proud to be a symbol of UMa students' union. Receptive to critics, opinions, claims, suggestions or demands, AAUMa believes that students should have the duty of being an active part on the paths of its' Academy. Students' Union follows an important strategy defending the students' common interests. By supporting a direct communication with the student, Students' Union tries to inform and educate the student bearing in mind several fields of knowledge.Our main patrons are: Coral, MOCHE!, Santander Universidades, Diário de Notícias da Madeira and La Vie Funchal. The Coca-Cola Company is also our patron.In addition to these supports, Students' Union has the collaboration of over 50 private companies and public institutions and dozens of dedicated volunteers.
