University of Manchester Living Wage Campaign Details
A student-led campaign founded for The University of Manchester to become a living wage employer, accredited with the Living Wage Foundation.Following discussions between the campaign, Manchester Citizens, the university and the Living Wage Foundation, in March 2019 the university officially became living wage accredited. The university was the 5000th organisation to do so. In June 2019 the campaign was named "Campaign of the Year" at the Living Wage Foundation Awards. The campaign is now for other key Manchester organisations and institutions to follow this lead. We believe there are enormous benefits to paying a real living wage, and that the university and other large employers have a duty to be socially responsible pillars of the community.
